Podiatrists are specialists in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of the feet and lower limbs and are qualified to treat people with conditions such as arthritis or diabetes, which may affect the feet. They deal with problem nails, skin infections, foot injuries and a wide range of foot concerns. They work with people of all ages - from children to older people who are looking for help to maintain their mobility.
There is actually no difference between a chiropodist and a podiatrist. In the past ‘chiropodist’ was the word originally used to describe those specializing in foot care. However, in recent times podiatrist is the word which is being used more frequently. Podiatrist is a term which is considered to reflect a wider range of expertise and is also the word used in other English speaking countries.
